  True Client Server Architecture

Client/Server? What's that? While other Microsoft Access or FoxPro based solutions consider themselves to be Client/Server, the truth is THEY ARE NOT! Route Expert, however, IS!

The difference between a "flat file" database system such as Access or FoxPro and a Client/Server system such as Oracle or Sybase (Route Expert uses Sybase) can best be demonstrated with an example:

• Lets assume that you have 1,500 sites. Your sales manager asks for a list of all the sites that are at bowling alleys. This request would be translated into computer-ease as "a list of all sites whose name contains the letters B-O-W-L".
• In the Access or FoxPro scenario, the workstation submitting this request would then read each record from the database (all 1500 of them!) and check to see which have the letters B-O-W-L.
• Does it work? Yes. Is it efficient? NO! Imagine if this workstation was remotely connected from 3 states away, or worse, via modem!! It could take an hour to process!
• The same request, processed via Route Expert would happen more like this: a request for "a list of all sites whose name contains the letters B-O-W-L" would be submitted to a database engine which is running on your server. This request would then be processed and only the MATCHING records would be sent back across the wire to the requesting workstation. So, if only 10 records match only 10 records need to cross the wire, not all 1500! This request can be completed by Route Expert in seconds, even over a modem!
• The SPEED & EFFICIENCY of a True Client/Server architecture will quickly become apparent. These speed and efficiency gains become more and more noticeable as the size of your business increases.
